What is Amatuer Radio?

​Amateur Radio is a hobby that helps to bring people together, learn about technology, make new friends, and have fun with radio.

Amateur Radio also known as ham radio, describes the use of radio frequency spectrum for purposes of non-commercial exchange of messages, wireless experimentation, self-training, private recreation, radiosport, contesting and emergency communication.​

Amateur Radio Licencing

Amateur Radio in Ireland is Licenced by ComReg. (Commission for Communications Regulation)

Irts


Irish Radio Transmitters Society (IRTS) sets an exam on behalf of Comreg for Radio Amateurs based on HAREC. (Harmonised Amateur Radio Examination Certificate).

​Exams are normally held twice a year
 at various locations dependent on demand.

South Dublin Radio Club

The club gives support to those sitting the exam through self study.

Runs, subject to demand, Radio Theory classes for those wishing to sit the radio experimenters exam (Class 2 Licence).

Runs, subject to demand, Morse Code (CW) classes for those wishing to upgrade their licence to Class 1.
